New from Formlabs: Form Cure L V2 and Tough Resin Family

At CADimensions, we believe great ideas deserve the right tools. That’s why we’re excited to share the newest innovations from Formlabs: the Form Cure L V2 and the upgraded Tough Resin family, featuring Tough 1000 V1 and Tough 2000 V2.

These new Formlabs materials make it easier to create strong, reliable parts with less work after printing. The Form Cure L V2 speeds up curing and improves part strength and consistency. With new resins built for durability, your Formlabs 3D printer becomes an even more powerful tool for design, testing, and production.

CADimensions is proud to partner with Formlabs to bring you the tools that help you build better, faster. Because tomorrow is designed today.

The Challenge: Post-Processing Bottlenecks and Material Limitations

Even with advanced 3D printers, many engineers and manufacturers face bottlenecks that slow down production and impact part quality. The latest Formlabs materials and Formlabs post-processing tools were created to tackle these issues head-on:

Post-Processing Challenges

  • Long cure times and slow production
  • Inconsistent curing results
  • Limited capacity for large parts
  • Manual handling increases errors

Material Limitations:

  • Parts that fail under stress
  • Limited temperature and creep resistance
  • Surface finish doesn’t match presentation standards
  • Narrow material compatibility

The New Form Cure L V2

The Formlabs Form Cure L V2 is built for professionals who need production-ready parts fast. Compatible with all Form 3 and Form 4 series 3D printers, this updated curing unit delivers faster, more consistent results.

What are the differences between the Form Cure L and Form Cure L V2?

The Formlabs Form Cure L V2 is faster, stronger, and more efficient than the original model.

  • Speed: Cures parts 3–5× faster

  • Capacity: Chamber matches the Form 4L build volume

  • Consistency: More even UV exposure for stronger, more accurate parts

How does the Form Cure L V2 cure parts faster?

The new design packs a serious upgrade in optical power and efficiency.

  • Previous model: 45 LEDs at 30W

  • New V2 model: 96 LEDs at 150W, plus 50W radiant power

  • This means 4× more light energy, which cures parts faster and more completely

Material Innovations: The New Tough Resin Family

The Formlabs Tough Resin family has always pushed the limits of what’s possible with SLA printing. Now, two new resins are raising the bar even higher.

The new versions raise the bar, offering performance similar to common thermoplastics like ABS, PP, and HDPE—while still giving you the detail and smooth finish of SLA printing.

Tough 1000 Resin V1

The new Formlabs Tough 1000 Resin is the most ductile and impact-resistant material in the Tough family. It’s designed for parts that need to bend, flex, or take repeated impact without cracking or losing shape.

Key benefits:

  • Exceptional durability
  • Superior fatigue resistance
  • Versatile performance
  • Professional finish

Tough 2000 Resin V2

Tough 2000 V2 is the strongest and stiffest resin in the Tough lineup. It offers ABS-like performance for demanding engineering tasks.

Key benefits:

  • High strength and stiffness
  • Improved temperature resistance
  • Long-term performance
  • Refined appearance

Stronger, Smarter Materials for Real-World Results

With Tough 1000 V1 and Tough 2000 V2, engineers have more options to create parts that act like production components.

Whether you’re designing prototypes, tooling, or final-use parts, these Formlabs materials make it easier to move from concept to completion faster and with confidence.

Are these Formlabs materials compatible with my printer?

Form 4 & Form 4L: Both Tough 1000 V1 and Tough 2000 V2 are supported.

Form 3 Series: Use Durable V2 and Tough 2000 V1; they remain available for the lifetime of the platform.

What’s the difference between Formlabs Tough 1000 V1 and Formlabs Tough 2000 V2?

  • Tough 1000 V1: Most flexible and impact-resistant in the family; HDPE-like behavior for parts that bend or take hits.
  • Tough 2000 V2: Strongest and stiffest; ABS-like for rigid, load-bearing parts with improved creep and heat resistance.

Are these resins biocompatible?

Tough 1000 and Tough 2000 V2 have not been tested for long-term (> 30-day) skin-safe biocompatibility. For long-term skin contact, use Tough 1500 V2.

Which resin should I choose for my application?

Choose Tough 1000 for:

  • impact-resistant parts
  • living hinges
  • gears

  • low-friction assemblies that flex without cracking

Choose Tough 2000 V2 for:

  • structural jigs, fixtures, snap-fit enclosures
  • parts that must resist heat and long-term load

Formlabs continues to drive innovation in 3D printing. With the Form Cure L V2 and the new Tough Resin family, teams can produce stronger parts, reduce cure times, and speed up production. These updates help you design, test, and build with more confidence and less downtime.
